The Story Behind Ponoka Arts, Recreation & Cultural Society
PARCS was initially established as a fundraising arm of the Town of Ponoka Recreation Committee to raise funds for future arts, cultural and recreation facilities;
The founding committee quickly determined it would be advantageous to be a completely independent organization. PARCS applied for and was incorporated under the Societies Act of the Province of Alberta on October 23, 2017 thus enabling the Society to operate as a stand-alone entity at arm’s length from the Town of Ponoka. Obtaining Society status will ensure that all funds raised by PARCS will remain under the sole control of PARCS for the specific purpose of building or renovating future arts, cultural and recreational facilities in Ponoka and Ponoka County.
PARCS then embarked on an application to the Federal government to obtain ‘Charitable’ status thus enabling PARCS to issue tax receipts for qualifying fundraising, philanthropy or benevolent donations. On August 24, 2018, PARCS’ was approved as a registered charitable society.
The founding committee are lifelong residents who recognize our existing arts, recreational and cultural facilities are deteriorating or non-existent. Funds available from municipal, provincial and federal governments is decreasing. PARCS objective is to attract and steward endowment funds and to make strategic investments in facilities that enhance quality of arts, recreation and cultural activities in Ponoka and surrounding County. PARCS exists to help the people of Ponoka and area by encouraging philanthropy and funding charitable activities. Through contributions from donors and fundraising events, PARCS assembles and administers permanent pools of capital so the returns can be perpetually reinvested in our community. PARCS complements and supports other charitable agencies.
